The Legend of Legacy Looks Like Bravely Default, But Plays Differently

Famitsu has shared the first details on The Legend of Legacy, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS RPG being developed by FuRyu in collaboration with a number of former Squaresoft staff. Screenshots reveal the game as a game that looks a little like Bravely Default in that it uses 3D character models over pre-rendered backgrounds with a hand-drawn style.

The Legend of Legacy will feature seven different characters and a progression system that allows you to freely progress through the game, apparently with no set story path. You’ll form a three-man party, picking three characters from the seven, and adventure across the island of Avalon.

As you discover maps throughout the game, more parts of the world will open up for you to explore. Designer Kyoji Koizumi says that his intention was to create a game without quests, where players would have to figure out how to progress by themselves. In order to provide a slight level of guidance, The Legend of Legacy will give you one main goal from the start, but beyond that, you’re on your own.

The world of the game is the aforementioned island of Avalon, upon ruins are scattered all across. As you progress through the game, you’ll uncover its secrets and the mystery of just who used to occupy the island.

The Legend of Legacy will be released on January 22nd, 2015 in Japan for Nintendo 3DS.
