Tales of Hearts R Gets A “Day One Edition” In Europe

By Ishaan . September 25, 2014 . 7:37am

Bandai Namco have announced a “Soma Link Edition” of Tales of Hearts R in Europe. The Soma Link Edition—which they say is the “Day One” edition of the game—will include bonus costumes based on Judith, Repede and Patty from Tales of Vesperia.

Purchasing the Soma Link edition of the game will get you a code that will let you participate in a draw to win a Japanese collector’s edition of Tales of Hearts R. Five of these will be available. In addition to the collector’s edition, each winner will receive a unique congratulatory video featuring Tales producer Hideo Baba, and a personalized outer case with their name on it.

Namco also announced pre-order bonuses for the game, which include costumes for Kor, Kohaku and Gall based on Caius (Tales of the Tempest), Marta (Dawn of the New World) and Spada (Tales of Innocence).

Tales of Hearts R will be available November 14th in Europe.

Thats cool pre-ordered it a while back

  • ALfromHELLSING

Bandai Namco USA, hello? Fans in the west would love to get one too.

  • Rose Spinoza

Last costume is actually Malik from Tales of Grace’s.

  • http://natenayshun.tumblr.com/ Ghost Pilgrim Leon Farenheit

The more i see vesperia tagged on the more i feel sad that my 360 crapped out on me

  • Jin Kisaragi

Tales of must be really popular in Europe.

  • Takane Shijou

Enjoying how we’re getting a Patty costume, yet suspiciously haven’t seen here over here in the West beyond importing.

    • Rafael Fracaroli Tolentino

Graces F also had a Patty costume for Sophie…

  • ZengarZombolt

since there will a draw on Japanese collector’s edition I doubt that they will release any other edition.

  • DudeJericho

Aww man, I imported the DS version already, why are you tempting me with this…?

  • Tincho Kudos

So, how actually this game fares againts recent tales games? Is it good? For the record, I loved both xillia and didn’t like Graces much outside the combat

    • Ladius

Hearts R seems to be very good, the scenario writer is Yamamoto, the one who also worked on Xillia 2’s story, and the battle system has its own traits thanks to the counter system and the huge importance of air combos. Apparently it’s as long as the console Tales games, and it’s also the last Tales game with a traditional overworld map, if you like that.

If Hearts R is successful, hopefully we could get Innocence R too, which is graphically worse since it was released earlier but has its own interesting traits and apparently is a huge improvement over the original Innocence in pretty much every way (they completely remade each dungeon, changed the battle system, added two new characters and changed the story events, and so on).

  • raeldor

I feel somewhat jealous of those who haven’t played this game yet. I had a great time playing it on the Vita.

    • Lilburrito

Why would you be jealous then? Is it because the first time experiencing it is always better?

      • raeldor

        Exactly. :)

  • NeptuniasBeard

Wait, they turned the DOG into a costume? That’s… actually kinda messed up

  • http://danierc-polloconpapas.tumblr.com/ Eduardo Rocha

Isn’t the last costume Malik’s from Tales of Graces F? Oh well, I hope we get this on America as well. If I pre-ordered the game already I would basically get all these, right?

  • http://www.fogalchemist.com CaRoss

This is so cool. Hopefully us NA fans get something special, but if not; this is great for those in Europe. I just really hope that the localization is better than Hollow Fragment’s though. That’s all I’m personally wanting (to an extreme) at this point.

  • Smooosh

I really want that stuff but I rarely pre-order games, does it matter where I do it?

  • rinalicat

Oh man I want this so much!!!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

eh it’s just the game with DLC. Not sure why people are so uptight about not getting this in their respective region lol

    • NeoA

iirc the preorder/day-1 cameo costumes for previous Tales games could only be obtained by preorder/day-1. And never appeared on PSN. Some people may be worried that if this doesn’t come to NA, that they may not be able to get the costumes.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

Hm I guess that’s why people are like that. Well for me I don’t particularly care for it. I mean I’m already paying £22 for it so if this so called day one edition ending up being £8 more or worst £12 then that’s not simply worth it. You’re pretty much paying for 3 DLC and 1 raffle ticket lol

  • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

I don’t own a Vita, but living in NA, I wouldn’t even be mad considering how screwed over Europe gets when it comes to games.

    • Barrylocke89

Well at least in this case since it’s a game on the region-free Vita, if someone REALLY wants this game, they can import it. Costly, but doable.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

But to use the DLC costumes they’d have to go through the hassle of switching regions / formatting memcards / etc~.

  • http://theCKNB.wordpress.com/ CodyOh

Still can’t even preorder it from eb games in Canada :/

    • Mr_Rogers413

You can order it from Gamestop.com and have it shipped to Canada. I’ve done this for all the Tales of CE’s this gen. I suppose you could pre-order from the US and cancel once it pops up in Canada as Gamestop doesn’t charge until the game is shipped.

  • landlock

Lots of costumes for games we never got. ;)

    • Ladius

It isn’t really so bad, among those games we got Vesperia (aside from Patty, the Judith and Repede costumes are fully enjoyable by those who played the original release), Symphonia DotNW and Graces f and Tempest has been fantranslated.

      • landlock

        I wasn’t be overly serious.

  • http://myvideogamelist.com/mylist/Katzedan katzedan

Really hope that at least the bonus dlcs costumes comes to the NA version,
but probably it’ll be like Xillia 2 again, so not happening :(
And well, since I can’t get it from gamestop, whatever >_>

  • Bob Slim

Well isnt that nice. Hope NA get something like this too or im not getting it at full price. Already was not gonna get it at full price cuz no english dub. But this would change my mind

    • Ladius

That was probably the only way that could make the localization of such a big Vita game feasible for Namco, considering they also have to price it lower than a PS3 game despite it apparently being just as long. The only thing that will change if we don’t support Hearts R is that we likely won’t get anymore handheld Tales localizations, and that would be a shame considering Innocence R is still being considered depending on Hearts R’s sales (not to mention Reve Unitia, even if that’s on 3DS).

Personally, I will buy it day one not only because it seems to be a great game, but also to show Namco they did the right thing by listening to the fans’ requests in #jrpgvita, unlike other publishers.

      • Nix da

God finally someone with a brain !

      • mc3027

Actually, I read somewhere they said it was a spacing issue. People have been asking (harassing) them about including the Japanese track, and could only fit one. But it has the added benefit of saving them money and time as well.

I’ll still buy it right away, even without an English dub, which I prefer. I think it’s stupid when both sides totally dismiss a game due to voice acting. We didn’t even used to have voice acting in games!

  • ZEROthefirst

I hope people in the US get this as well, but after Xillia 2 I have my doubts. Hopefully if anything we’ll see these on PSN unlike previous pre order or collectors edition DLC outfits being completely locked to that and never making their way to PSN.

  • X_Bacon

    That’s Malik’s costume, not Spada’s…

    • http://www.myspace.com/Juan_Rod bluejuan85

Indeed If it was Spada’s costume where is the hat?

  • Yaggyu

    Marta<3

  • Will Jay

…Weren’t these regular DLC in the JP version?

    • http://twitter.com/GNPixie Lynx

      …………
      Yep. -_-

    • darke

You’ll probably be able to buy them post-release on the PSN still. >.>

      • http://myvideogamelist.com/mylist/Katzedan katzedan

the pre-order exclusives from Graces, Xillia and Xillia 2 never made it to the NA PSN, so, I don’t believe it’ll be possible :(
of course don’t know about the EU PSN

        • http://www.myspace.com/Juan_Rod bluejuan85

Yep I believe Graces F pre-order only costumes were Asbel’s Kyle Dunamis (ToD2) costume, Richard’s Judas (ToD2) costume and Sophie’s Rutee Katrea (ToD) costume. Xillia pre-order only costumes were Milla’s Stahn Aileron (ToD) costume and Jude’s Cress Albane (ToP) costume while finally Xillia 2 had Ludger’s Emil Castagnier (ToS:DotNW) costume, Milla’s Asbel Lhant (ToGF) costume and lastly Jude’s Yuri Lowell (ToV) costume.

  • http://www.myspace.com/Juan_Rod bluejuan85

Sweet day one edition Europe is getting I’m hoping we get the costumes at least and nooooo Repede what have they done. Kunzite skinned you and is wearing you.

  • Prithivi

    Already pre-ordered!

A Vita RPG that gets a physical release in Europe and it’s also translated into spanish… That’s the way to go, Namco. Now take my money.

    • Ladius

I didn’t really expect them to go EFIGS with such a niche release, but it seems like they’re trying their best to make Tales popular in every European market.

  • Nan

Well, at least I already own the JP CE….

  • Kornelious

    Oh……Well what about the US?…..

I’m happy for Europe and all but I will be REALLY mad if they dont bring this “Soma Link Edition” to NA since it’s literally just DLC so it can’t be that hard to do!…..I guess the drawing for the Japanese version is to make up for no physical LE…..Which sucks because I kinda wanted a physical LE :(……..But the Extra DLC is better than nothing,

I’m not worried about not getting the Pre-order bonus’s, and I dont even want them to do the same drawing in the US, I just hope that they give us a Day-One edition as well -_-…………

  • soulz

It seems as though Europe is getting more perks with their JRPG’s lately.

    • Ralopoz

It’s to make up for all those amazing games that were never released in Europe

  • http://henrikblomgren.net Henrik Blomgren

So a Soma Link edition that is basically just the normal game but with a chance to win the Japanese CE edition and DLC costumes?

What ever happend to “good” special editions? Compared to the previous Xillia special editions this version falls short. So so very short.

    • Ladius

Again, this isn’t a special edition, this is the regular version
everyone who preorders a first print copy will get. The price is also
that of a regular game. The concept is the same as the Day One editions rather than Limited editions.

  • Ralopoz

I like getting something other than just DLC with special editions. Like artbooks or OST CDs

    • Ladius

This isn’t a special edition though, this is the regular version everyone who preorders a first print copy will get. The price is also that of a regular game.

  • HerosLight

What are the Battle themes for each costumes?

I know Marta’s, but not the rest.

  • Cyril Murasakitsuyukusa

Looks pretty neat, but it would have been nice of Bamco to include something like Artbook with the game for this Edition, imo. -_-

  • awat

luckily the Vita is Region Free, will defintely try to order this one the accessories are teasing :)

but guys, is this like a super limited edition !? i would love to get the game with the accessories :(

    • ehtnah

vita is region free BUT it has an unfriendly account system. so if you order a retail game of an other region (like a US game with a EU account) you will be able to play the game, but you won’t be able to have dlc for that game (because the game need dlc from the game region, and you cannot dl other region psn dlc on your EU account).

so unless you change your account (on your vita) you will loose the dlc. and the accessories aren’t in the box, you have a code, to participate in a draw (so you will most likely have nothing…..).

      • awat

that fucking sucks, this happened to me once when i changed my account to use a Jap accoutn to play some of the jap demos, i wanted to get back to my US account and i couldnt restore the damn back up file, and i lost my over 60+hours of P4G i think i will keep away from EU versions of games .. thanks for the reminder .

  • Ric Vazquez

Oh, that’s nice…wait, WHAT?! Will it be Europe only?!

  • Ryumoau

As much as i love Tales, i’m going to wait for a price drop. I don’t feel comfortable spending a full $40 on a subtitled only game, especially one that Namco yet again insists on not even giving NA customers a chance at preorder dlc.
they seem to do this alot with their games like One Piece PW2 and Xillia 2 preorder dlc. Not to mention the Tales of Xillia 2/Symphonia avatars that have never been released on NA psn store.

Its really obnoxious how much favoritism Namco shows towards EU and JPN, yet still demand NA gamers pay full price for their games. :(

    • Ladius

Actually, Europeans pay more for their games because of currency values, so Namco can probably budget the extra contents for European releases a little better, not to mention Europe has lots of different retail chains, and that could make exclusive preorder bonus more relevant. For instance, an European copy would cost you 39.99 EU in most stores, which translates to 50$ even before shipping, while US customers can buy it for 39.99$. Even then, the US got a better limited edition for the last Tales games, so it isn’t like Europe is always in the best situation. That market didn’t even get most Tales games before Graces, too.

Also, remember they decided to localize this game after the fans requested it a lot on #jrpgvita, despite Namco not being sure they could recover localization costs since the game is as long as the console entries and yet has to cope with Vita’s smaller base. Not dubbing it was probably the only way a localization could be feasible (other games on Vita did the same thing), and boycotting it just means they will be wary to listen to fans request and won’t localize Innocence R, whose translation depends on Hearts R’s sales.

  • Zoozbuh

Wow, what a crappy day-one edition. Assuming you AREN’T one of the 5 lucky contest winners, all you really get is the game and a few DLC costumes (which I’m not hugely interested in anyway, they’re just costumes.) I might wait a while to buy this one + as others have said, the subtitle only and spotty translation from gameplay videos is putting me off getting it.

    • Ladius

We should consider day one editions are nothing but the regular version of the game with some extra contents sold at regular price, not some kind of limited edition with an higher price tag. Considering it’s already really risky to localize such a large Vita game given the market that handheld has outside Japan, cutting profits even more by adding trinkets to the regular version would probably make it straight up unprofitable.

The localization has been done by 8-4, the same team who localized previous Tales games, and they’ve already improved it since the first footage, for instance adding subtitles during battle.

  • Nu Blitz

thats pretty cool wish i could win one of the customized copys

  • artemisthemp

Looking forward to Tales of Hearts R :) specially after this
