Here Are Some Of The Customizable Options In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Last night on Miiverse, director Masahiro Sakurai teased some of the additional customizable options that players will have access to in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Take a look at them in his post below:

Falco only + Direct Attack Forbiden + Metal + Rocket Belt + Stamina = Shooting 2D Game based on dodging and B Down Shielding !

  • Sakurai really made the 3ds ver irrelevant with all the Wii U content.

    • idrawrobots

but don’t you remember how every one kept saying the 3DS version made the WiiU version irrelevant?

      • Michael Synodis

No. I’ve never heard anyone say that.

        • Enzo

People weren’t saying that verbatim, but they were trying to say that the 3DS version made it where people would just be satisfied with the 3DS version and have no strong reason to upgrade to the Wii U version except for playing with a controller and higher definition.

          • Cazar

Which still holds true to some extent. Not everyone who bought 3DS Smash and doesn’t already own a Wii U is going to drop another $350 for some extra features. You have to keep in mind that a large portion of Smash consumers are casual gamers (as is the case with all multi-million sellers) and tend to overlook or disregard details like new features and higher resolutions.

          • Enzo

Except that argument would hold true of any multi-platform game, no matter how many new features or how big the differences are between the platform. The real difference comes in when you look at your demographic and what THEY would do. No one knows for sure and only make their statements in hindsight. HOWEVER, that isn’t what I was referring to. I am referring to people thinking that generally the only people who would get the Wii U version are people who already have Wii U’s and don’t have 3DS’ already, or fanboys. Therefore, they were concluding that the sales would be abysmal.
EDIT: I would like to point out that there’s no official definition for a “casual” gamer.
EDIT 2: I also want to point out that before even knowing the information, I still thought that the idea that the Wii U version would tank for that reason is ill-informed. However, with the new information, their arguments pretty much fall apart.

          • Cazar

In that case I’d agree with you, although that’s not really what your first comment sounded like you were referring to and I don’t recall anyone taking such extremes as projecting that the Wii U version would outright flop. It was mostly along the lines of the 3DS version and launch date potentially biting into Wii U hardware sales that it’s been in desperate need of.

As for “casual gamers” I was referring to people who buy and play console games in modest quantities and don’t typically follow gaming news sites, thus might not even know about the feature differences in the first place.

Could have put in more customization elements. Most were in Brawl.

    • doubleO7

What are you talking about? Smash U already has 4 more options than Brawl did.

      • Frankie

4 options is not that many.
What if you could apply different custom rules to each character or teams? What if you could do Giant Bowser vs Mini Jigglypuff? What about a best 2 out of 3 match where you keep playing but the stage changes?

Nintendo is pretty far behind in terms of customization. They have a lot to learn when it comes to this stuff. They still make the best games but they need to improve in this area. Perfect example is the alternate outfits. Color swaps are pretty lazy with today’s technology.

        • doubleO7

Oh, so by “most were in Brawl” you were just disappointed that there weren’t many new options? I took that to mean that you were saying Brawl had the most customization options, of which I tried to correct you. My bad.

    Franklin Badge FTW

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

TURBO MODE? oh thats Project M…

    • Kaihedgie

Fast Mode was in Melee onwards. It’s not a Project M thing

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

Its not fast mode, Its you can do combos one after another look it up

        • Kaihedgie

Apparently you weren’t paying attention. This isn’t to make the fighters themselves super fast, it’s to increase the gameplay’s speed itself. Characters, stages, items, everything.

  • AuraGuyChris

If only this was in the 3DS version. Such a big missed opportunity…for snapshot material.

    • Based Ignacio Puppo

Probably done to have more selling points on the Wii version. Probably,

      • hawk222

Probably done because they have so much stuff stuffed into the 3DS version as it is. Not to mention the space needed for the upcoming DLC.

        • chocodino

3ds smash is only 1GB, 3ds games go up to 8GB, there is more than enough space for this things.

          • Laith Rem

Not in that sense tho. Smash already taxes the 3DS processor without those options. It’s why after a Flower Smash or Mega Smash in Smash Run it takes a lot more than a normal Smash to get to the result screen.

      • More likely because enabling all the customization options would crash the game. Imagine a Flower Curry Fast Mega Heavy Smash with four players. Frame rate drops wouldn’t be the only bad thing happening.

        • Based Ignacio Puppo

Oh! I did consider that, but then I thought about it… technically, it could be possible if you activated only those items in a custom brawl, so it COULD, potentially, happen on the 3DS.

          • HarakiriKami

Sure, Lets just turn off the 3D and the 60fps while we’r at it

  • glenngunnerzero

Screw Attacks for everyone AWWWWW YEEEEAAAAAHHHH

    • Princess_Eevee9

You get a Screw Attack. You get a Screw Attack! EVERYBODY GETS SCREW ATTACKS!

      • Hau To

        I want a new car too~
Also, $5000 for everyone. Thanks Oprah.

  • Princess_Eevee9

Please be Online too. Please be included Online too! Special Mode is my favorite to play!

    • AuraGuyChris

There’s a high chance this won’t be there.

      • HarakiriKami

Eh why? It should be in the for fun mode

        • AuraGuyChris

They could have easily mentioned that in the recent Direct, but they didn’t. That’s why. Online is the same as the 3DS version, except of course in HD.

          • HarakiriKami

… No its not. The only thing that’s not online is 8 player smash and Smash Tour ( since it replaces smash run and smash run isnt online)

( 3DS cant handle these things online anyway. Duh)

is Reflect status not a fair trait to characters with Reflect move like Mario?
