Xeodrifter, Renegade Kid’s next side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo 3DS, is nearly complete. In a recently published development diary, studio founder Jools Watsham writes that the game will be submitted to Nintendo for lotcheck this week.
Watsham says that the debut trailer for Xeodrifter has been viewed 32,000 times as of the time the development diary was published. The same trailer was viewed another 10,000 times on Nintendo’s own YouTube channel. He goes on to mention that he hopes this interest will translate into decent sales for the game.
“I do not expect 32,000 copies of the game to sell any time soon, but even ¼ of 32,000 would be a nice start,” Watsham says. Given that Renegade Kid’s previous games have found success on both DS and 3DS, Xeodrifter will probably be the same way. It is interesting to see that even 8,000 copies sold would be considered a “nice start” for the game, and gives one an idea of how Renegade Kid budget their titles smartly.
Watsham mentions that the team took a little extra time to polish the game up, too.
“One of the additions/expanded aspects of the game that was possible with the extra production time is the end sequence,” he writes. “We added a whole new level section, a new boss encounter, and a little secret that happens in the final boss encounter that I won’t spoil by revealing here. I really love what we have been able to add in this regard. I have very fond memories of the final encounter(s) in Wind Waker, and I feel as though we have accomplished some of that same spirit in Xeodrifter.”
A release date for Xeodrifter hasn’t been announced yet. Since the game is being submitted for lotcheck this week, any issues that come up during the QA process will need to be resolved before a release date can be decided upon.
