Translation And Editing Work On Story of Seasons Is Complete Says Xseed

By Ishaan . November 13, 2014 . 1:30pm

Translation and editing work on Story of Seasons is complete, Xseed Games said in a new development diary. All that’s left is QA work, which involves bug fixes and preserving the personality of each character in the game.

“Besides all of the above, the QA process is also about preserving each character’s voice, making sure they speak in a consistent manner from scene to scene,” Xseed say. “That’s doubly important in a non-linear game like this one, where the script files aren’t always in any particular order, and where multiple localizers sometimes have to take turns writing the same character.”

You can read the full developer diary here. Story of Seasons doesn’t have a release date yet, but we’ll be on the lookout for when Xseed do announce one.

I’m really looking forward to this after being slightly disappointed by The Lost Valley. I hope the name change doesn’t hurt sales too much.

    • s07195

      What was Lost Valley like?

      • Princess_Eevee9

A huge mess. I’m only a month in and not liking what I’m playing. The game is empty and the gaming is tedious. The graphics are nice though.

        • Can I at least ask how you feel the gameplay is tedious? Is it the watering? I agree with you on that point, but then I found out that you can actually leave your plants for a day without worrying about them. You only have to water them every other day.

          • Princess_Eevee9

I meant the farming is stale. I’ve been excited for this game since the announcement around E3. Followed almost all the news coming out for the game faithfully until release but now so over excitement for this game for it has not lived up hype. I have a ton of reasons why I’m so close to taking this game back and getting my money back. But instead I’ll let do it instead since it says it better.

Well I can give one where are the tool upgrades? Why does it take me all day to water crops?!? Why should I have to water my crops every other day that’s not how it’s supposed to work. And okay my main complaint WHY IS TIME HYPERSPEED? A whole day is like three minutes long. As Agnes would say Unacceptable.

          • I can agree on the tools thing at least. I do wish there were proper tools upgrades. You are supposed to be raising up Dewy’s friendship though, so maybe they felt like that’d stop you from ever using him (and really, they’d be right.)

I’m like at least 80% certain though that the seventh Harvest Sprite only unlocks if the other Sprites are in good Chemistry with you, so I can see why they might’ve not wanted to do a watering tool upgrade– but without one, yes, watering can get super tedious.

Though I have yet to take all day to water crops, and generally, I prefer to do it at night anyway. Watering stays for, on average, at least 24 hours in-game, which is why you don’t need to water them everyday. While this might not make much sense for you, I think it makes sense with in-game evaporation. I could see a trade-off though of getting upgrades but going back to the normal way of watering everyday.

Also: Oh dang good a big feedback thread.

          • Princess_Eevee9

My problem with this game is that it I have to give yo so many things that should already be in the game. No I don’t care that I have to raise the Sprites Chemistry to get them to do things. And other thing why us Friendship gone along with gift-giving gone too? This game would’ve been good as another spinoff like Hometown Story for all of the fun elements are gone.

        Its got some issues, like time going too fast(1 second=1 minute) and how requests work could be improved, but I think its worth playing. Once you figure things out, its fun, and making your own paths through the Minecraft-like terrain is a good thing to do in your downtime early on. ^^ I’ve played over an ingame year, and only stopped right now because Hearts R came out two days ago. ^^;

        • I agree with this. Requests could likely be fixed by letting you fulfill them even if the characters are wandering the valley. The time thing actually is take/leave for me and I don’t mind if they change that.

What I DO want is for crop mutation goals to be lowered when it comes to selling to Sam/Iris to get them to put up seeds. Right now I’ve heard it takes 99 of a mutation to get them to start selling, when I think it should be 1/3rd of that.

Overall, there are actually a lot of things I feel they can fix in Lost Valley, either through a patch or the next game, but I do definitely like the game a lot.

      • It’s a fun game for me with things they could improve upon either through patches or the next game in the series, but it’s very love/hate. Some people think it’s boring, others think it’s great. It’s sorta all how you decide to approach the game, really.

Or maybe just the dream pushings to do the story requests come differently depending on the game file, who knows! But I think the game is overall worth it to try.

I’m inclined to agree. I mean I like the game, but I feel the game doesn’t do an effective job at dangling the carrot in front of you.

  • Kaetsu

I’ve been wondering what’s happening with this game so it’s nice to get an update. Since the translation is complete it seems like the game will be out by March or April.

  • Göran Isacson

Man, several localizers working on the same character while the script is hella out of order. Easy to see how mistakes and writing flubs can happen in situations like those, and kudos to the localizers who manages to pull it off.

    • andref

The amount of work being done by such a small company is also very impressive

  • Princess_Eevee9

I can’t believe I got this and Lost Valley mixed up. I’m so happy to hear this news.

  • I love Harvest Moon! Well, the original series, not the one Natsume develop themselves. A New Beginning was good, so I’m looking forward to this one.

  • AuraGuyChris

Let’s pretend this game is called Harvest Moon: Story of Seasons.

    • I really would have preferred if they just called the games Ranch Story here and then made it Story of (Such and Such Game).

  • PenguinPlayer

With Trails in the Sky FC, Akiba’s Trip, Shinovi Versus, and half of Bon Apetit already out, and this reaching it’s final stages, I can’t wait to see what Xseed will come up with next.

By which I mean, pester them on twitter about Kenka Banchou 6. Please.

    • ThatGuy3190_7

Also pester for Kenka Banchou 6 to be both physical and digital release. Please.

  • Azul

huh didn’t know there wasn’t a release date for some odd reason I thought there was a release date for Feb

    • That’s just a placeholder. Unless if XSeed says it directly, they’ve stated that every date you might see if just a placeholder done by that specific store.

  • Phlo

I’m excited to see what a main series Harvest Moon game will be like with quality control. It’s never had that before!

    • As far as localization. That’s definitely true~.
I haven’t played ANB yet and I won’t know about this title until it’s out of course, but I’m a little on/off with the quality of Bokujo as far as actual development.

  • JMaster3000

    I wish they update us Euro peeps with RF4 news ;-;

  • Kornelious

Sounds like they’re doing a thorough job, that’s good I’m looking forward to this much more than Lost Valley…… Which apparently already came out…. That was fast :P

  • Vallen

I am confused, is this a new Harvest Moon/Rune Factory game or is this a brand new IP?

    • Furansuwa

It is a new harvest moon. The game we know as Harvest Moon will now be called Story of Season. Natsume will do their own original game and call it harvest moon.

    • Alphonse

It’s a Harvest Moon game, but Xseed doesn’t own the Harvest Moon trademark in America so they’re forced to localize it under a different name.

  • fyi1191

Trading in my Harvest Moon Lost Valley for this.
That game is just … horrible.

  • Learii

I glad I didn’t buy HM lost valley

  • Jan Daryll Palanca

on a slightly relevant story, where’s my Tits:SC?

  • Yue D Andre

I still have $45 more or less on my 3DS after purchasing Fantasy Life.Since i won’t buy anything later i might as well save it for this or if MH4U came out first (MH4U still a priority).
Glad i don’t buy Lost Valley though. Had been tempted once but after researching, turn out Lost Valley is not good.
So yeah…bring it on Story of Season, day 1 if you make it first before MH4U or i might get both :p

  • Wooo! \(^▽^)/ My next 3DS purchase outside Pokemon.
