Digimon World Re:Digitize Fan-Translation Is Almost Complete

By Chris Priestman . January 6, 2015 . 2:31pm

Fans have spent over two years translating Digimon World Re:Digitize for the PSP to English and, finally, it is almost done.

The original plan was to get the translation ready by the end of 2014, but due to having to check over big areas and other commitments preventing progress on this, the team had to settle on 2015.

As should be expected, the English translation covers the names, titles, and descriptions of everything in the game from individual Digimon to item effects. It is 100 percent finished now so details of its release should be on its website shortly.

Now that this team of fans has finished translating Re:Digitize for the PSP it has revealed its next plan. That is to translate the enhanced port of the game on the 3DS called Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode.

The team released a teaser for the translation of Decode as a proof of concept, with several scenes from the game already translated. You can watch the teaser below.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Damn I played this 2 years ago? Time sure does fly.
That’s good for others though. A two year wait must have been tough.

  • Good news everyone

    • Renaldi Saputra

      Not really a good news

      1. Decode can be only played with Gateway
      2. If Bamco see this fan translation project, they won’t localize Decode anymore despite the struggles for 1.5 years

      • Harrist

pls stop bringing our hopes down ffs

        • Renaldi Saputra

Do u think that I don’t want it? I really wanted it very much to be honest. But 1.5 years had passed since Re:Digitize Decode released with the struggle of the campaign to bring it to the west. I knew fans weren’t patient to play in english

But if the fan translation being known by Bamco, do u think they still will localize it? This is why I hesitate

I’m afraid that the campaign, Operation Decode will be eventually futile for Re:Digitize Decode bcos of the leaked fan translation

  • triablos

How would you play a translated game on a 3ds? Isn’t the thing secure as hell and updated every hour to remove hacks and stuff

    • Brandonmkii

There are flashcards for it that would allow y to play it, but afaik it requires you to have old 3DS firmware to even work.

    • Linkmstr

It’s already been possible to decrypt and edit 3DS roms for quite some time now. There are already some modified roms out there and there’s even a full Chinese fan-translation of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. So yeah, it’s been possible for months and it’s slowly growing as we speak. You’ll need a Gateway flashcart and a v4.X 3DS to be able to run a modified rom though.

  • MaidKillua

Never really gotten all that into Digimon but good to know people are still translating PSP games. Wonder how Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is coming along

    • The PS version was already translated some time ago…

…aaaand the PSP version of it was localized some time ago.

      • JonathanisPrimus

Presumably he means the PSP version of Eternal Punishment.

        • MaidKillua

Yes I messed up I wasn’t thinking. Time for a sneaky edit. Though Innocent Sin still never made it to MY region so technically… lol

I always forget which is which when it comes to Persona 2 since neither ever made it to Europe and thus I’ve never played them. But I will. I can still import Innocent Sin from America (Yes I know it’s on our PSN but downloads ugh)

    • BrokenSkullZero
  • Agito

oh i didn’t realise that the 3ds got a working hack. now i can just imagine all those fun anti-piracy methods by companies :)

    • decus

I’d go so far as to say “it doesn’t”. It’s basically similar to the PS3 in that if you have one old enough, never updated the firmware, etc. you could get something working on it. But, new models sell such that you can’t set there firmware back far enough no matter what you do.

I’d hope their main goal would be getting a script out and available, since to create a patch for a 3DS game is basically just catering to a very small market of pirates only.

      • RedSuisei

Do note that even if they released a script, Decode can only be played with a Japanese 3DS.

      • Agito

i am fairly familiar with the hacking world (been there until the psp era), but i didn’t realise they were actually selling the cards for quite some time.

and yeah it is quite a shame that we can’t play these games without pirating them. i loved playing boktai 3 to death! but the only way to do it is by pirating it. wish kojima would release it on VC already.

  • I commend the team for their two years hard work to make the game a lot more understandable for its non-Japanese players and fans. Even with the obstacles that delayed the release, they still persevered and pushed through~!

  • Hinataharem

I wish it was localized so people wouldn’t have to do this

    • Renaldi Saputra

Nah Bamco chose All-Star rumble, not this
what a poor choice, sacrificing one game for that

  • Souffrir

Inb4 Namco C&Ds this. I mean, right before the translation is done is when companies tend to threaten legal action, right?

    • Adam Sheridan

You’d think they would cut them a deal so they could sell this in the west.

      • Spirit Macardi

You’d think so, but then Namco isn’t a fan of good ideas.

        • Adam Sheridan

I mean if I had a company dealing with manga, I’d be more than willing to throw a few bones to the fan translators so I could very quickly and efficiently sell my product in that market. Everyone benefits.

  • Envatta

This the only time I’ve not wanted this game localised (even if fleeting). However, if companies localised more, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Anyway. Well done on all your hard work!

  • Serge

To all of you who wants to buy a Gateway after watching this, be warned that the flashcard doesn’t work with every 3DS; you need an old model with an old firmware to made it works. If you, for some crazy reason ,update your 3DS then the flashcard will become useless. Also, a lot of 3DS already come with a firmware incompatible with Gateaway, so check everything before buying one.

  • Renaldi Saputra

Well, this is bcos Bamco didn’t localize it until now so that the fans weren’t patient

Waiting Bamco to localize is just unrealiable, they DID a wrong way

but, this only could be played with gateway
so it isn’t a good news for those who wanna play Decode

    • JMaster3000

Then just play the PSP version.

      • Renaldi Saputra

Already finished it years ago without the patch

        • JMaster3000

If that’s so then nothing stopping you. Cyber Sleuth is gonna come out soon so get that. I’ll be waiting for the fan translations cause idk japanese.

          • Renaldi Saputra

            Already preordered it :p
for cyber sleuth, it seems making a fan translation for a vita game is still impossible for now

  • PowerSerg

When it releases I’ll for sure be jumping on it.

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Hopefully someday Cyber Sleuth will be translated too, either official or fan-translation. Since i prefer the artstyle and battle system on that one

    • Renaldi Saputra

Translating a vita game is much harder than 3DS

So I think Bamco should take a move from now

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

plot twist : Bamco suddenly decided to do PS3/PS4 HD version and then localize it. Just like SE announce Type 0 HD and localization just when the fan-translation was done.

    • Renaldi Saputra

From 3DS into PS3/PS4 would be silly, though

      • FTM

I think PSP to PS4 is even more ridiculous, to be honest

        • Renaldi Saputra

3DS is dual screen, which is harder?
You need to do more with the game system

        • Luke Blackwood

Someone clearly doesn’t know about Type-0 HD

          • FTM

Me? That’s what I was referring to.

I trust Type-0 HD is going to look slick, but that doesn’t make it any less ridiculous :P

      • “From PSP into PS4 would be silly, though”

        • Renaldi Saputra

          I’m talking about Decode

          • “From 3DS into WiiU would be silly, though”

          • “From 3DS into WiiU would be silly, though”

      • Rayhan PromisedGallery

to be fair, the very first game was PSP game. So at least it won’t be 100% 3DStoPS4. They only need to make Decode content into one screen again, or just remaster the PSP version without Decode content. Though that will be even bigger trolling.

Though my post was just a joke that makes fun of SE’s trolling of the fan-translation. (Heck, SE decide to remaster PS1 FF7 to PS4. what the heck)

  • FTM

Excellent! I’ll download this right away when it’s released.

Also— kind of a bummer they’re doing a 3DS game next. The only mod available for 3DS is such a pain in the butt; need old firmware, runs on a cart, and is overall a chore.

Wish they’d do another PSP title— there’s still so many that demand English release!

    • Yeah I agree. There was this other PSP title called Digimon Adventure that probably did not also get a release. I also wish they can translate that (or some other group already did? I’m not sure). But of course, haha, it will be their choice ^^

      • FTM

You’re actually right on both accounts! It didn’t get localized, and there is a translation group that was 50% finished with the game last I checked in November!

I’m pretty excited about Adventure, because, as a guy born in ’90, that’s the Digimon I’m familiar with. Digitize is a cool game, but my nostalgia triggers lie solely with Digimon Adventure!

        • I see. I hope someone does translate it completely. >_< But thanks for the info.

  • Yagami Mao

    wow! I’m happy :D

  • Reki Honoo

I honestly hope this gets namco to finally realize that we want decode and cyber slueth over in the west, and gives us those games.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      Bamco might think instead

      It’s like they will think:

“So they localized the game themselves, it seems that they don’t need our help anymore. Good luck with it and we won’t have to spend budget to localize the game”

  • Man, I wish I could get this legit. It’d be nice to actually support the dev team, you know?

    • MickyT

You can easily legitimately support the dev team by importing the game and ripping it to an iso to apply the patch, in fact thats the only legal way to make use of the patch

      • Codi Schumacher

Thats undermining them not supporting them.

        • melvin2898

You’re buying the game so you’re supporting them.

      • British_Otaku

Presumably copies that you spot nowadays would send change back to the original developer and publisher at best, so supporting them through a digital copy specifically is ideal.

  • Kroz

Sigh….Wish my psp didn’t die last year.

    • AlphaSixNine

emulators can help. they work quite well now

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I see how we can play the psp version

but how can we play the 3ds translation. …unless you are taking about that $70 flash cart that doesnt work on all 3ds

    • Renaldi Saputra

That’s why translating it won’t bring any help unless there are some 3DS emulator that work well

    • DurrD

The gateway card has support coming soon for every 3DS up to 9.2

  • Lemski07

kudos to all translators without them we woudnt be able to touch those games made only for japan.

  • JMaster3000

Digimon Re:Digitize AND Lost Evolution is gonna be soon finished too.
2015 will be awesome for Digimon Games! :D

    • Renaldi Saputra

      *Lost Evolution

  • JeySigma

meh, im not excited about this game anyway..

And how the heck is Greymon even smaller than Angewomon??

im currently playing Digimon adventure for the psp and it’s a really great game. Looks great, follows the anime extremely closely and has some of the best graphics in a digimon game so far. Not to mention ALL the digimons are to scale, unlike most games out there.

    • Renaldi Saputra

Great game? Nah it just followed the story of the anime with RPG vibe

      Just a quite decent game

  • melvin2898

I don’t use my PSP much. How would I get this on my system?

    • xanox

as an iso file, you need custom firmware to play them. depending on which gen psp you have youll need to download a certain version.

  • Hines Green III

Man it’s been a long time since I heard of fan translating psp games. The last one I was waiting on was .hack//Link and it’s still not done lol

    • mockturtle

I thought the Link translation made it so that at least all of the main story was playable in English?

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        no just menus

        • mockturtle

      • Hines Green III

It’s funny because the entire story is on youtube translated by them but it cuts off half way in the game.

    • Barrylocke89

It allowed me to try out Danganronpa despite being a Vita-less peasant. Much love fan groups!

  • aizen310

If only Vesperia translators could be this determined… :(

    • Hines Green III

Oh man I forgot they existed :(

      • aizen310

        lol No wonder.

        The project is literally dead.

        • Tienron

          i so agree with this….

  • ssj4maiko

Damn, I already have a save game, seriously don’t want to restart everything, but then, I would lose most of the story details…

    • Renaldi Saputra

I think that they only change the script of texts, so you might be able to play with your save file

      • ssj4maiko

I know I will probably be able too, the problem is to follow the story, I don’t remember if there is a NG+, but I remember I was pretty far in the story, which means that, unless I restart everything, I will have lost all the story up until that point.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          NG+ will help

  • Eilanzer

Kudos to these guys saving the rest of the world from the blind japanese companies o/
Thank you translators, a thousand times thank you! o>

    • Renaldi Saputra

Yeah for PSP, but not for the 3DS one

  • CozyAndWarm

Man, they outta just focus on Decode right away. After all the hype from Siliconera and elsewhere regarding the doubled/triped amount of content and the new character, I don’t think I’d be able to play the original without feeling like I’m missing out.

Of course, if Namco just localized it, we wouldn’t have to worry about any of this…

  • TheCynicalReaper

I’m so glad I bought a PSP again. NICE!
Though since I was introduced to this art style via Devil Survivor I keep expecting the story to take a grim, bloody turn. haha

  • Crimrui

Nice, time to wake my pal from slumber and get into this. Thousands thanks for anyone who was part of this project. Hopefully, Sol Trigger gets it’s translation finished soon as well. ˇˇ

    • Hines Green III

Oh wow I remember Sol Trigger that game was pretty looking. :D

  • ShindoW

Now we can finally get back to the translation we really want: Adventure PSP.

  • Steven Higgins

Dammit Bamco, the fans are almost done doing the job YOU should have done years ago!

  • Notquitesure?

My favourite quote in digimon. ” I
don’t have a whistle to wake you, but I want you to know you’re not alone, okay?
And the mail keeps coming. It won’t stop. Kids from
all over the world are writing to you. They need your help. You’re the only one
who can do it. Feel their hope. Feel their strength.”

  • Hasette

    aaaaaawwwwwwwwww yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissss

  • Ors Ferdya

Without good people nowhere .But i still very hope and waiting TOTW 2 & 3 complete fan translating
