See Which Amiibos Are Most Popular Around The World

During a financial results presentation this evening, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata shared a little insight into how the company’s Amiibo figurines are selling.

Iwata used the pie chart you see above to illustrate which parts of the world have seen the highest number of Amiibo shipments from launch until the sixth week of this year.

As you can see, the U.S. accounted for the vast majority of Amiibo sales, with 63% of shipments being sent to U.S. territories. Iwata added that the sell-through rate for the Amiibo figurines was around 70% in each of the territories mentioned above—with the exception of Australia, where the figurines sold through 90% of their shipment.

Next, if you’re interested in the popularity of individual Amiibos, the chart above illustrates the sales ranking of various Amiibos in different regions. The chart isn’t entirely accurate since certain Amiibos have been facing stock shortages, but it does give one a good idea of their popularity nonetheless.

During his presentation, Iwata also revealed that there are plans to release a free Amiibo app for the Wii U this year. When you tap an Amiibo on the Wii U GamePad, the app will allow you to play through a portion of one of the NES or SNES games that character is featured in. You won’t be able to play the full game due to a time limit, but another tap of the Amiibo will change the scene to another section of the same game, and you’ll be able to play through that next.

Iwata also stated that, while it is difficult for Nintendo to continuously manufacture every single Amiibo figurine, the company will consider additional production of figurines that sell out and then see a great deal of additional demand from retailers and/or consumers. (Or in cases where they’re indispensable to play a game.)
