Last Friday, February 13th, saw the release of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in the U.S. and Europe. In a recently financial results presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata touched upon their performance.
The chart above highlights launch sales for Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate compared to their predecessors, A Link Between Worlds and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. In the case of Majora’s Mask 3D, the game appears to be outselling A Link Between Worlds by a fairly healthy margin in both the U.S. and Europe.
Meanwhile, in the case of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, U.S. sales data isn’t available yet, but in Europe, the game sold twice as much at launch as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which is a good sign. Iwata also pointed out that both Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate have seen stellar review from critics.
Food for thought:
One last interesting point of note. Iwata also stated that Majora’s Mask 3D is selling to the same generation of people that he referred to while discussing sales of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
