Since Pokémon GO’s release just a few days ago, the app has been peppering news stories all across the world. [Thanks, Venture Beat.]

However, while most of the reactions to the game have been tremendously positive, a few dangerous situations have cropped up from people using the app to bait players into muggings.

In response to these recent incidents, The Pokémon Company and the app’s developer, Niantic, shared the following statement:

“We are aware that some incidents have occurred involving fans playing Pokémon Go. We encourage all people playing Pokémon Go to be aware of their surroundings and to play with friends when going to new or unfamiliar places. Please remember to be safe and alert at all times. We are humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to Pokémon Go and greatly appreciate the support of our fans.”

Pokémon GO is available for iOS and Android devices.
