Nintendo Wii U Production Ending In Japan

Earlier this month, Eurogamer brought to light a rumor suggesting Nintendo Wii U production may end on November 4, 2016. Nintendo told IT Media that wasn’t true. Now, Nintendo Japan’s website notes that production on the two Nintendo Wii U bundles sold in the country is going to end soon. (Thanks, Kotaku!)

Only two Nintendo Wii U bundles are immediately available in Japan. One is the 32GB premium set. The other is a Splatoon set that includes the 32GB Nintendo Wii U, a digital copy of Splatoon, and the Callie and Marie amiibo. The standard set is ¥32,400 (~$304), while the Splatoon set is ¥39,960 (~$375).

An exact end date for Japanese production of Nintendo Wii Us has yet to be announced. The notation also specifies Japan, so North America, Europe, and Australia will have to wait for word from Nintendo regarding production of the system in their regions.

The Nintendo Wii U launched in Japan on December 8, 2012. It was released in North America, Europe, and Australia in November 2012.
