Wii U Production Isn’t Ending On November 4, 2016

Yesterday, Eurogamer came forward with a rumor from multiple sources that stated Nintendo Wii U production would come to an end on November 4, 2016. This came after a Q2 2016 financial report noted that Nintendo expected to ship 800,000 Nintendo Wii Us in the fiscal year ending March 2017, and 560,000 had been reached as of September 30, 2016. Now, a statement made to IT Media says production isn’t ending this week.

A Nintendo representative spoke to IT Media regarding the rumor and said that it isn’t true. It says that the company plans to continue producing Nintendo Wii Us, even though plans for the Nintendo Switch’s release are being made. The representative also reminded IT Media that Nintendo is still working on Nintendo Wii U games. While no title was named, this could be a reference to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will be released in 2017 on both the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Wii U is available worldwide. Nintendo will hold an event detailing the Nintendo Switch’s price and release date on January 12, 2017.
