Square Enix is celebrating the upcoming release of Dragon Quest XI with a series of demo events as part of the “Countdown Festival,” where we got to see the latest of the RPG’s 3DS and PS4 versions.
The 3DS footage starts at the 22:20 mark of the video, where we see how Dragon Quest XI starts out in the RPG’s opening chapter. During the earlier parts you’ll see it in both 3D and 2D, but you’ll get to switch between either mode later in the game.
The 3DS footage continues for a good while, but we’re treated to a look at the PS4 version at the 36:06 mark of the video. The demonstration footage mostly takes us on a tour of Delkadal Kingdom, where the hero runs into some unexpected trouble with the king.
We previously learned that Dragon Quest XI will have some extra challenges with the “Restrictive Play” feature that gives a variety of handicaps for players who want a greater challenge. There are about four restrictions to choose from, and the first one we saw was an option to restrict purchases from shops. The second one was revealed as “restrict escapes from battle,” meaning you’ll have to go through the game without being able to escape from battle.
Keep in mind that these restrictions are mostly there for challenge purposes, and you can remove them at any time.
Dragon Quest XI releases in Japan on July 29, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.
