Sega’s Video Games Profit Saw A 32.8% Increase Last Year

Sega shared its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018. In the report, the publisher shared details on its operating profit that saw an increase of over 30% in the last fiscal year.

 

In the Entertainment Contents section of the financial results, Sega started out by listing digital game software that released during the fiscal year ended March 2018, which included Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record, Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation as new smartphone titles; however, the number of new titles ended up being less than expected.

 

As console games, Sega listed titles such as sonic Manica, Sonic Forces as some of the new titles that were released in the fiscal year. This also included Persona 5 which exceeded 2 million units in cumulative worldwide sales.

 

In total, Sega sold 17,330,000 copies of software. The company sold 10,280,000 units in the previous fiscal year, so that’s a pretty big improvement.

 

Amusement machines saw robust sales for CVT KIT and prize game machines including the UFO Catcher series. The amusement center operations field saw an increase of 101.9% in like-for-like sales compared with the previous fiscal year.

 

The animated film and toy field saw a big performance from the film Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter, which obtained the top spot in the box office ranking for Japanese films in 2017, as well as income from the online distribution of animation. Sega also implemented the sale of new toy products including Disney & Disney/Pixar Characters Dream Switch and mainstay toy products including the Anpanman series.

 

As a result of all that was mentioned, net sales in the Entertainment Contents segment earned 208 billion yen, an increase of 1.2% from the previous fiscal year. The operating profit was 14.84 billion yen, a huge increase of 32.8% from the previous fiscal year.
