Inside the Lumines Live Advance pack

While most Xbox 360 owners were downloading and playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 this weekend, I shelled out the points for the Lumines Live Advance pack. I’m not a huge fan of breaking Lumines into microtransactions, but I had to see what new songs the pack added. Lumines has roots in house music and the Advance pack doesn’t stray too far. However the new pack adds in more of a world groove. “Shadow of the Grandfather” has a hip hop sound and smiling blocks as squares, “Mysterious travel to Asia” brings in the sounds of Asian strings and "Hometown" melds in Irish dance music. Most of the twenty two skins in the upgrade are new to the Lumines series. That doesn’t mean your not going to see them in Lumines Plus (PS2) or Lumines II (PSP), but they are on Lumines Live first.

To unlock songs in the Advance pack you have to play through “advance” in challenge mode. Once songs are unlocked you can use them in skin edit mode and play them online… only if the other person bought the advance pack too. Hopefully future packs will come with extra bonuses. Add in anything, gamertag pictures, more achievements, dashboard themes or downloadable soundtracks to give added value to a 750 point download.
