Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles Of Mystara’s Custom Rules Revealed

Recommended Videos

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is a digital bundle of two Capcom arcade beat ’em ups, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara and Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom. One interesting feature is "House Rules" which lets players change how the game plays. There are seven House Rules in Chronicles of Mystaria. One of them is a nod to Sonic the Hedgehog.

Unbreakable – items have infinite durability

Enemy Rush – essentially turns the game into a time attack mode. You start with 30 seconds and have to defeat enemies to increase the clock.

Vampirism – each hit recovers a bit of health

Lockpick – all chests are unlocked

Hedgehog – lose money instead of health

Elimination – a survival mode where the last player standing wins

Make it Rain – more silver pieces are dropped.

House Rules have to be unlocked through the game’s point system. You earn unlock points by completing challenges similar to other Iron Galaxy ports like Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition and Darkstalkers Resurrection.

I played Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara with the Hedgehog, Make it Rain, and Enemy Rush rules. So, instead of losing health our characters lost money, but since enemies dropped a ton of silver we were essentially invincible. The true enemy was the clock. I played the magic user who can cast spells that clear goblins of the screen and more importantly increase the amount of time on the clock. Since we lost money instead of health and the Make it Rain rule made enemies drop bags of silver we could spam desperation attacks. Stacking house rules like enabling lockpick, unbreakable, and vampirism would make the game incredibly easy. If you want to make it more challenging try Hedgehog and Elimination which will make players fight for their life to get loot.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is slated for release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U.
