This Colourful Game Is An Homage To The Legend Of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Midora is another one of those Kickstarter games that started up, and then promptly decided to cancel itself. However, the Legend of Zelda-inspired PC game is now back for another try.

Midora is a top-down, pixel-style RPG very much in the vein of Zelda games—The Minish Cap, to be specific. And while the team is unabashed about their love for the game, developers Epic Minds have their own spin on the genre.

As Snow, you’ll discover “that one thing” which turns her from nobody into a heroine of destiny, questing through 12 different dungeons in an open world. Able to control water, she and you eventually learn to combine these with runes to further amplify different magic results.

Besides magical runes, there’s also several Zelda-homage items for players to discover hidden in the dungeons. Some include a boomerang-like Wind Fan, and the ability to whip yourself around levels with the Vine Whip. The game says it will have more than 200 different items, some of them crafteable, to play around with. Some of these, they hint, you’ll only be able to effectively use at night.

Midora also includes a bunch of different mini-games including fishing, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s really clear where its influences came from, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Midora is coming to PC. If it hits its stretch goals, the game will also port to Sony’s PlayStation 4, the XBox One, Nintendo’s 3DS and the Wii U. That’s a ways to go though, with about 20% funding and a little under a month to go. You can back it here.
