Gunsport Is Cyberpunk Volleyball With Guns

Necrosoft Games and Iron Galaxy Studios have announced new cyberpunk “online multiplayer eSport” Gunsport for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in early 2015.

They’ll be taking it to the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, Texas, as well as EVO in Las Vegas next year. Necrosoft teamed up with Iron Galaxy to make sure the online component is as good as it needs to be; Iron Galaxy has worked on Divekick, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online, Marvel vs Capcom Origins, and Darkstalkers Resurrection, and so it seemed like a good fit.

Played like volleyball, except… er, with guns, Gunsport is the World’s Sport in its colorful future of repurposed technology and neon lights. It’s used to settle disputes between nations after the world became exhausted by war. As such, you can expect arenas in Neo Tokyo, Neo USSR, The Free Congo, Blue Cambodia, and Nuovo São Paulo.

It can be played one-on-one or two-on-two, and teams compete by shooting the ball to keep it in the air and into their opponent’s half. Every time the ball passes the net it becomes worth more points, therefore making it more and more vital that you don’t let it drop to the ground.

Gunsport further differentiates itself from volleyball by limiting how much ammo each team has—if you run out then you won’t be able to hit the ball back. It’s also possible to hit a team attack: if you both shoot the ball at the same time it will travel twice as fast into your opponent’s half. There are also stage-specific gimmicks that can be pulled off with some skill.

The game’s music is being composed by Motohiro Kawashima, the composer of Streets of Rage 3 on Sega Genesis, and Kurt Feldman of The Ice Choir, who is also providing sound effects.
