The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D producer Eiji Aonuma previously showed off his skills in the game’s shooting gallery as part of a video introduction series. This time, he gives us a tour of the Doggy Racetrack.
In order to get to the Doggy Racetrack, you’ll need to head outside of Clock Town at the Romani Ranch. Once Aonuma gets there, he decides to not give little Romani his name, which prompts her to call him Grasshopper-kun. We then get a first look inside the Doggy Racetrack, where you can see Mamamu Yan giving an explanation on what it’s about, and how you’ll need to bet at least 10 Rupees in order to participate.
The race is pretty simple. You won’t do any of the racing for yourself, but it’s pretty much like horseracing, where you choose a dog and take it to Mamamu to make the bet. 1st place gets triple the money, 2nd gets double, and anywhere from 3rd to 5th gets their money back, so it’s actually quite generous.
To test the waters, Aonuma goes with an odd-colored purple dog, and bets just 10 Rupees. While it starts off fine, the purple dog doesn’t do too well in the end. Similar to the previous video, Aonuma is offered a challenge: win 1st place using the Mask of Truth. The Mask of Truth helps you read the dog’s mind, so you can get a better idea of how the dog will perform in the race. After getting a few confident comments from various dogs, Aonuma decides to go with the dark dog that says that he has to win for his wife and child.
The producer hopes the dog will win for the sake of his family, but in the end, it just isn’t good enough finish in the top spot. Next, he tries going with a dog that had the most confident-sounding comment, but it still isn’t good enough.
In the end, Aonuma tells himself that he’ll follow his heart, and goes with the dog that is running for his family, as he figures that if he keeps trying a dog with the same comment, they’re bound to eventually win.
On his fifth try, he’s feeling a little more confident and goes with 50 Rupees. Unfortunately, he doesn’t win 1st place, but manages to get 2nd to double his Rupees. Hopefully he’ll have more luck with the next mini-game.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will release in North America and Europe on February 13, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.
