Persona 4: Dancing All Night Hands-On: Dance Battles Really Heat Up In Hard Mode

Recommended Videos

Persona 4: Dancing All Night takes the Investigation Team to the Midnight Stage where players battle shadows by dancing. Siliconera had a chance to play a build of the rhythm game during E3.

After choosing a song, stars fly from the center of the screen to D-pad arrows to your left or face buttons on the right. Persona 4: Dancing All Night has hold notes which are outlined in green and you have to hold down a button until the note passes.

The game also has pink notes where you have to tap a button on the d-pad and a face button at the same time. I started by playing a remix of “Pursuing My True Self” on normal and it was pretty easy to keep Teddie dancing. At the end of the song, Teddie unleashes his Persona and a set of turntables while shadows dance behind him.

The ending changes depending on who dances. Yosuke and Yu’s personas rock out on guitars at the end while newcomer Kanami, an idol friend of Rise, doesn’t have a persona. Players earn coins depending on their score which can be used to unlock costumes. Unfortunately costumes weren’t changeable in the E3 demo.

Atlus USA project lead Yu Namba explained that Persona 4: Dancing All Night’s difficulty isn’t that challenging on Normal or Easy. That way, fans of the RPG series who don’t usually play rhythm games can progress through the story. Hard mode is there for music game experts and that’s where dance battles really heat up.

While I breezed through five songs on normal, it took a couple of tried to clear one song in hard mode. It feels like between the easier difficulties and its hard mode, Persona 4: Dancing All Night should have something for people who want a solid rhythm game and Persona fans that want to see the Investigation Team solve another mystery.
