The Yarn Yoshi amiibo Is A Quality Plush

The Yoshi’s Woolly World Yarn Yoshi amiibo is desirable for a number of reasons. It is an amiibo, after all, one of the market’s hottest collectible figures at the moment. There are people who grab these just because they’re the first chance to get official products based on lesser known characters. It also does a great job of enhancing Yoshi’s Woolly World on the Nintendo Wii U, allowing a person to call in an extra Yoshi to help them pass levels. But there’s a third reason people should consider getting a Yarn Yoshi amiibo. These are well made stuffed animals for something so small.

The Yarn Yoshi amiibo are extraordinarily well made. Each one captures a Yoshi’s details, using six different colors of yarn. The eyes are perfectly embroidered onto the face and offer a permanently fixed, optimistic gaze. While very obviously mass produced, it still offers the same sort of personality as a handmade, crocheted amigurumi or knit toy.

If there’s one design criticism I have of the Yarn Yoshi amiibo, it’s that the arms don’t seem exactly right. While the face, body, feet, and tail all match the Yoshi’s Woolly World character exactly, it’s almost as though the arms are a little too wide and stubby. It’s an issue I’ve noticed varies from one Yarn Yoshi to another. My friend’s pink toy seems to have more elongated and appropriate arms compared to my own. When picking out your own toy, examine the amiibo available to find one with the most pleasing appearance.

yarn yoshi 3 I’m especially impressed with the Yarn Yoshi amiibo’s durability. Despite the arms, the shell, legs, and ridges are all separate parts sewn onto the toy. Everything feels very solidly attached, especially the shell, though I could see an issue with the feet if someone intends to use it as a bag decoration by threading a ball chain through the bit of fabric on his head. (But really, who would want to do that and perhaps risk losing this precious baby?)

Considering the price and functionality, the Yarn Yoshi amiibo ends up being one of the stars of Nintendo’s NFC figure lineup. The Chibi-Robo toy is still my favorite, but this is a close second. The pink and light blue Yarn Yoshi amiibo are available for $16.99 each. The green Yarn Yoshi amiibo is only available bundled with Yoshi’s Woolly World for the Nintendo Wii U for $59.99.
