Caligula Is A PS Vita RPG That Will Trap You In A Virtual Reality High School

We recently learned that the game FuRyu has been teasing is Caligula for PlayStation Vita, and this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine has more details on what the game is about. [Thanks, Hachima.]

In Caligula the students are trapped in Mobius, a virtual reality world where those within it repeatedly relive the three years of an ideal high school. Those inside Mobius continue to live with no recollection of the real world.

The main characters begin to come to their own realizations that they’re not living in the real world, and form a “Return Group,” as part of their own desires to return to the real world, and begin to find a way to do just that.

However, there are some members that suffered in the real world and were saved by Mobius, as they have a hidden darkness that can’t be shared with others.

Mobius is an ideal world that was created by the vocal soft “μ.” Here, there are those that were in despair in the real world and were saved by her song that granted them ideal situations. Regardless of age and gender, those in Mobius become high schoolers and relive its three years in a loop.

μ (CV: Reina Ueda): A vocal software that was created by humans. She’s the one behind the creation of Mobius that was made to save the main characters from the struggle of real life. She is the creator of Mobius, and practically its god.

Protagonist (CV: Chiharu Sawashiro): The leader of the Return Group that aims to escape Mobius.

The dungeon exploring in the game will have battles that seamlessly transition into combat. It uses a command-based orthodox system with combos to go with it. When entering a command the main character’s imagination visualizes, and it reproduces the actions of allies and enemies.

The “Ostinato” are musicians that go against the main characters. They are the ones that compose music for μ. They plan to destroy the Return Group that plans to escape from Mobius.

As far as music goes, it’s done by various composers known for Vocaloid music. The person in charge of the sound is named Masuko, but not as in Tsukasa Masuko who worked on Shin Megami Tensei titles for Atlus. The developer is Aquria, recently known for making Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment.

Caligula will release on June 23, 2016 for PlayStation Vita. The game will go for 6,980 yen.
