The second Dev Diary video for Sonic Mania Plus starts out with lead developer Christian Whitehead explains how they started out with a small playable version of Studiopolis back when the prototype was called Sonic Discovery. After it was presented to Iizuka-san, the team was instructed to keep the look consistent with the original versions of Sonic the Hedgehog.
