Nintendo of Japan has revealed the next Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event. These are special competitions that can often have certain rewards like new themes, if people participate enough to earn one. The Tetris 99 Splatoon 2 event will be held July 12-16, 2019, in honor of Splatoon 2’s final Splatfest, which will be held July 18-21, 2019.
The Tetris 99 Splatoon 2 collaboration will work in the same sort of way as the third Maximus Cup held to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Tetris. As people play, they will earn a certain number of points for their place at the end of the match. If they end up earning 100 participation points, then they will unlock a special Splatoon 2 theme for Tetris 99. They can then use this theme at any time when they play the game. The promotional image does not offer any inkling about what this theme could look like, but expect paint splatters and perhaps a squid or two.
In addition, some other Nintendo games will get Splatoon 2-themed events. The original Splatoon 2 collaboration items are back, as well as people being able to get the final Splatfest t-shirts. These will be available as a login bonus until July 25, 2019. There will also be a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Board event from July 12-15, 2019, where all of the focus Spirits will be ones from the Splatoon series.
