As we reach the sunset of the Nintendo Switch and the dawn of its successor, one can’t help but appreciate just how many games it has in its library. For JRPG fans with an eye to the classics, it’s been a paradise. With that said, looking at how much it has in its catalog does lead one to consider what it doesn’t have. With time winding down, here are 5 JRPG series we want to see on the Nintendo Switch before it bows out for good.
Xenosaga

Before Monolith Soft developed the Xenoblade series for Nintendo, it created the Xenosaga trilogy at Bandai Namco. The Xenosaga games are best known for their strong storytelling and fascinating sci-fi setting. Given what a major presence the Xenoblade series has had on the Switch, it’s rather surprising that Bandai Namco hasn’t ported these games to the console. With the recent release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on Switch, there’s still a good opportunity for KOS-MOS to ride again.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon

While the Yakuza series finally made its debut on the Switch with Yakuza Kiwami, the turn-based JRPG action seen in Yakuza: Like a Dragon has yet to make the scene. Ichiban Kasuga’s wacky adventures pay homage to a lot of games already available on the system, fueled by the main character’s obsession with Dragon Quest. Provided the technical challenges could be overcome, this is one JRPG series we want to see on the Nintendo Switch.
Breath of Fire

Sure, you can play the first two games in the Breath of Fire series if you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. There are five games in the series, though. The first four games are relatively orthodox affairs with plenty of colorful characters. The fifth game takes on many elements from the roguelike genre and feels like it came way before its time. It would be great to have a collection with all of these games on the Nintendo Switch. Maybe it would even drum up some demand for a new installment? Either way, this is a great JRPG series that is long overdue for a comeback.
Golden Sun

This is another case where you can play some of the games through a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, though you’ll need the Expansion Pack here. That’s great, but it would be even better to see all three games released in a collection of some kind. Their blend of storytelling, compelling turn-based combat, and satisfying dungeon puzzles makes them a series worth remembering. While we’re at it, can we finally get that cliffhanger ending from the third game resolved? It would be amazing to see Golden Sun make a full return on Switch.
Wild Arms

Having Wild Arms on the Switch might have seemed like a complete pipe dream not that long ago. It’s a Sony IP, after all. Well, with franchises like Patapon and Everybody’s Golf coming to Nintendo’s platform via Bandai Namco, Wild Arms might just be possible. This is a great series that could do with some extra attention, which is why it’s one of the JRPG series we want to see on Nintendo Switch. We don’t see enough JRPGs with Wild West influences, and there are six perfectly good ones here that are waiting to be reintroduced to the world.
