Editor’s Note: There will be FFVII Remake spoilers about the Avalanche characters Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie below.

FFVII Remake breaks from tradition when it comes to the fates of certain characters in the game. In the original Final Fantasy VII, Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie all died during the events of the fall of the Sector 7 pillar and plate. However, the events of the remake suggested different possibilities. Wedge immediately survived that instance. Jessie’s fate seemed ambiguous. While Wedge seemed blown off of Shinra tower during Cloud and the party’s rescue of Aerith, the game ended with Biggs in a bed recovering while Jessie’s equipment was nearby.

With the new social media update, Square Enix confirmed that Biggs is the one surviving Avalanche character in FFVII Remake. It shared a piece of art showing his updated appearance. It also noted he fully recovered.

This also follows a scene we’d seen during the FFVII Rebirth The Game Awards 2023 trailer. One portion showed the alternate timeline, with Biggs talking to Zack about the events of the last entry. It’s at that point that a wanted poster shows Barret, Tifa, Wedge, and Jessie as all dead. This means that it is uncertain which timeline this profile and character detail is referring to. It could mean that in the one we’ve been following, where Zack is dead, that there is a chance at other people still being alive. However, it could mean that regardless of the timeline, Biggs is the only survivor.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.
