Arc System Works brought Battle Fantasia in arcades last year and it’s far from Guilty Gear. The characters are cute and inspired by medieval fantasy themes. They are also 3D models, which throws Battle Fantasia in the brave new world of 2.5D fighting games.
In May, Battle Fantasia comes home to two consoles the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 for 6090 yen ($56). The single player story mode goes follows fights from the perspective of an individual character. Playing through the story mode is the main way to unlock hidden elements, presumably some of the extra costumes. Arc System Works is also including a practice mode, time attack mode and a network mode with online play. The network mode has a ranking system too so you can battle your way to the top of the ladder.
As of now, there is no corresponding announcement regarding a North American release. Battle Fantasia definitely doesn’t have a fanbase like Guilty Gear. However, Aksys has been localizing nearly all of Arc System Works titles. Could Battle Fantasia be their first PlayStation 3 release?
