At the end of the manga premiere, the veteran manga artist reportedly revealed that he has a heart disease. Due to this condition, Shuichi Shigeno cautioned that the serialization of Subaru and Subaru may not run smoothly.

Subaru and Subaru will take place the year after the races in MF Ghost. Fumihiro Joyu will hold a new racing series with a new qualification method to replace MFG. The new title will star two characters who have the same name Subaru, but with different kanji letters.

The first protagonist will be Subaru Sato, a female driver from Gunma, whose relations with Initial D‘s Mako Sato are still yet to be known. She will receive training from Bunta Fujiwara and participate in the new racing series with a Subaru BRZ.

The other new protagonist will be the Kanagawa native Subaru Kudo. He will offer himself to drive Ogata’s Toyota 86, which was used by Kanata Rivington in the previous year.
