Square Enix revealed a new game in the Octopath Traveler series during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on July 31, 2025, and it is called Octopath Traveler 0. It’s described as a journey of restoration. This means one mechanic will actually involve rebuilding areas. It will be out on December 4, 2025. It also looks like this will be the first entry in the series that will involve us creating and customizing our own character as we head out on a journey.
You can see the first teaser trailer for the new Octopath Traveler game in the series in the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase below. It comes up at the very end. Details about the story come up, including the idea that the adventure begins after a town is set on fire by enemies.
This will mark the fourth game in the series, and the third that appears to be a mainline installment. The first was the original title. That first launched on the Switch in 2018 before going multiplatform. In 2023, a sequel showed up on multiple platforms, including the Switch, all at once. There’s also Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent for mobile devices.
Octopath Traveler 0 will come to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and it will launch on December 4, 2025.
