Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake Heads to Switch 2

As part of the new game announcements during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, Koei Tecmo confirmed Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake for the Switch 2. It will launch on the system in early 2026. PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions were also confirmed by the company after the stream ended. That confirmation also noted there will only be Japanese voice acting, but subtitle options will include English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

In this installment, we follow twins named Mio and Mayu. The two of them end up finding themselves trapped in Minakami Village and separated. We control Mio as we attempt to find her sister, learn more about the village, and see if it is possible to escape. However, this is an extremely haunted area. To survive, Mio needs to use the Camera Obscura to take photos of ghosts to banish them and stay alive.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake will come to the Switch 2 in early 2026. The original game is available on the PS2 and Xbox worldwide, and a Wii Edition remake showed up in Japan.
