Square Enix shared some insight into LOGOS: The World of Final Fantasy XVI, the FFXVI lore book, via an interview with Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, and in it he confirmed that over 90% of the stories, insights, and materials are entirely new. It is the compilation written by staff of the game designed to read as though it is a new history created by Harpocrates II “Tomes” Hyperboreios. This comes ahead of its March 31, 2026 debut.

As part of this, Fox noted that FFXVI Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro tasked him and translator John Taylor as leads to write the book in English first. Fox specifically said, “When I was first approached, I was under the assumption that the text was going to be written by someone else—most likely someone on the quest team – and that I would do the translation, kind of similar to what we did for Final Fantasy XIV Encyclopedia Eorzea.” He noted that the book is divided into five chapters, with ones going over history, another on the eight Dominants and Eikons, a third about Clive’s Hideaway, one about the Mothercrystals, and a final chapter on Valisthea’s nations.

Fox also brought up that most of the lore that will be part of the LOGOS: The World of Final Fantasy XVI will be newly written and created for this book, and this book isn’t like a Final Fantasy Ultimania due to being from Tomes’ “perspective.” When bringing up what to expect, he said, “Yes, I would say more than 90% of LOGOS is new content that was both created and curated specifically for this book—either taken directly from the bible mentioned earlier, or crafted anew from original ideas based on Maehiro-san’s core concepts and fully approved by the creative director himself.” Later in the interview, he brought up some things to expect. For example, areas of the story not covered in the game will be detailed. He explained, “So, for example, we try to touch upon events that occurred during the 13-year gap between Phoenix Gate and the start of the game, as well as during the 5-year gap after the destruction of Cid’s hideaway.”

The interview also included pictures of some of the sample pages from the FFXIV lore book, which you can see below:
