NIS America shared two demos for The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon that allow us to sample different parts of the experience based on which platform we plan to play the JRPG. The Story Demo is out on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and PC now. If you have a PS4 or PS5, you can also get a separate Battle Demo. There’s a trailer looking at both trials as well.
The nature of each demo means the experience will be different in each. The Story Demo available on all platforms is the primary experience. That lets you go through the prologue for Trails Beyond the Horizon, and the save files you make during that demo can be carried over to the full version of the JRPG. (You will need to get the Switch and Switch 2 day-one patch for that to work, however.) That allows you to see why Ashen Chevalier Rean Schwarzer, Father Kevin Graham, and Van Arkride are working together with Marduk. The PS4 and PS5 Battle Demo is a sample of the Grim Garten dungeon experience with three preset parties featuring all three leads.
NIS America and Falcom also shared a trailer highlighting what we can expect. It begins with a look at the Story Demo. At the 40 second mark, the focus shifts to the Battle Demo to highlight how the dungeons work.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and PC on January 15, 2026, and the demos are available on storefronts now.
