Monolith Soft had an upgrade to show at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, as it turns out it was working on a Switch 2 updates for Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, and 3. It will be playable on the system on 2026. Previously, all three were Switch exclusives. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will be out today, with physical copies out on July 30, 2026. On July 30, 2026, the second game’s update will appear, with physical copies on October 1, 2026. The third entry gets its upgrade pack on December 3, 2026.
The trailer for the Xenoblade Chronicles games Switch 2 versions essentially acted as a refresher for the stories while also showing off the improvements. As expected, it looks like it runs better and looks better on the more powerful system, with 60fps and 4K present. It looks like there is improved lighting as well. Each game also gets new items like vehicles and voiced hearts to hearts in the first, a new Blade and new action battles that let us control Blades in the second, and a new hero and hero quest, horde mode battles, and more voiced event scenes in the third.

This is the second Monolith Soft Xenoblade Chronicles game to get a Switch 2 update and upgrade. The first was Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. That started out as a Switch remaster with additional content, following the Wii U release. The update showed up on February 19, 2026, and it also got a physical release. That also ended up with better graphics and framerate as part of the changes.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, and 3 are on the Switch and Switch 2 updates will appear throughout the rest of 2026.
