Spike Chunsoft announced a delay for the updated Danganronpa 2 x 2 retelling during its Anime Expo 2026 panel that also went over its new Slayhem mode. The title will now release sometime in early 2027. It is still planned for the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The announcement was accompanied by an explanation, which comes down to ensuring the overall quality of the final product by spending more time on its development. Producer Shohei Sakakibara stated, “While development has been progressing toward a 2026 release, we have decided to move the launch to early 2027. We will share a more specific release date at a later time. We are continuing to work to bring you the best possible experience. We sincerely appreciate your patience as development continues, and we look forward to sharing further updates with you soon.”

The other announcements at Anime Expo 2026 involved the Danganronpa 2 x 2 Slayhem mode that offers a new retelling alongside the Original mode, a 3D world map option, and confirmation of new character portraits. Slayhem will alter the story in certain ways following an unspecified “incident.” Because of that, Spike Chunsoft noted there will be different murderers with new motivations and victims than the original game.

Here are two examples of the new character portraits in our gallery.

Danganronpa 2 x 2 will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in early 2027 following the delay out of 2026. The original game appeared on the PSP in Japan, then the Switch, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices worldwide.
