Square Enix shared a number of Octopath Traveler reveals on the series’ eighth anniversary during an official stream. The first entry showed up worldwide on July 13, 2018 on the Switch. As part of that, there will be a free update for Octopath Traveler 0 on every platform in 2026. There are also Switch 2 versions of both Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 alone or in a bundle in Japan on the eShop now, with those showing up everywhere else digitally and physically on October 1, 2026. That bundle edition will show up physically in Japan on October 1, 2026.
In the case of the Octopath Traveler 0 free update, it will bring two new characters to Wishvale once you hit certain points in the story. One of the teases from the YouTube stream hinted an adventurer will show up as a possible resident. The silhouette looks like Elliot from The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The other one will be a Monster Arena addition you can make show up after beating the game. For the sake of spoilers, I won’t name them, but it appears in the Gates of Orsa dungeon.
As for the Switch 2 versions of Octopath Traveler 1 and 2, those will be native ports. There will be an improved frame rate and higher resolution, though Square Enix didn’t share the new targets. The final slide in that trailer did note “there are no plans to sell an upgrade pack” and mention Switch save data can’t be carried over to the Switch 2 version.

Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 are on the Switch 2 digitally in Japan now and will show up on the console worldwide digitally and physically on October 1, 2026. The first and games are also on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and PC. Octopath Traveler 0 is on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC worldwide and gets a free update later in 2026.
