Nippon Ichi Back In The HL, After Years Of Losses NIS Reports Profits

That’s Desco offering a congratulatory handshake to Nippon Ichi. The publisher reported 230 million yen ($2.85 million) in profit in the past fiscal year. A huge improvement compared to the year before that (i.e. April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010) where Nippon Ichi absorbed a 332 million yen loss ($3.7 million1).

Nippon Ichi focused on strengthening their brands like Disgaea and narrowed down the number of titles in development. As a result of improving quality control, many Nippon Ichi games exceeded sales expectations. Retailers placed reorders for Disgaea 4, which attributed to part of the earnings jump.

Total video game sales were 2.058 billion yen ($25 million) and their consumer games division booked 505 million yen ($6.2 million) in operating profit. This figure includes NIS America’s work on localizing and licensing games like Hyperdimension Neptunia and Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland.

1 This figure was calculated using the average yen to dollar exchange rate from March 2010.
