Chunsoft is known for roguelike dungeon crawlers and sound novels in Japan. First released for Super Famicom, Night of the Kamaitachi became one of their most popular titles with PsOne and Game Boy Advance ports. The story takes place at a skiing lodge where a murder takes place and it’s up to the player to find the killer.
True Night of the Kamaitachi was announced in Famitsu and it follows in the footsteps of the first title with blue silhouette graphics, but for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita these will be 3D models instead of sprites. Takemaru Abiko, scenario writer for the first two games and the mystery manga Sleight of Hand, reprises his role as storywriter. Like the original work, this game is set in a cabin on snowy mountain where serial murders take place.
What’s neat about True Night of the Kamaitachi is the game has a multiplayer mode. Up to 100 people can connect on PlayStation Network and race to crack a case first. PS3 and Vita players can connect to the same server.
While True Night of the Kamaitachi will be released on both consoles, there are some exclusive features for PlayStation Vita. The portable version will utilize Vita’s gyroscopic sensors and touch screens. Kamaitachi for Two, a mode exclusive to Vita, is a relationship tester. One person touches the front touch panel and the other person the rear touch panel. How you touch those determines your compatibility.
