Yaargh, a Chrono Trigger Famicom pirate cart

Recommended Videos

CinnamonPirate, the site that unearthed a pirated version of Final Fantasy VII for the Famicom, has an excellent article describing a pirated version of Chrono Trigger for the Famicom (via GameSetWatch!). The thought of 8-bit Chrono Trigger sounds like a technical feat, but CinnamonPirate describes the game as a miserable failure. It’s not the scaled down presentation or the fact you fight Pokemon in the forest that ruins this pirate port. Chrono Trigger, in the eyes of CinnamonPirate, is unbeatable.

The game ends with a fight against Magus and the fight can’t be won without cheating. Before you get there it sounds like there is a lot of forced grinding with a slipshod combat system. While this may not be "fun" to play it’s a really interesting novelty to see. And if you’re a Chrono Trigger fan you should see it. Horrors like this make you appreciate the original game and upcoming Nintendo DS port so much more.
