Nintendo wasn’t the only company with games at the annual AARP Life @50+ Expo. There was a virtual reality golf game and a NASCAR simulator. The golf game used actual golf clubs and golf balls. Players would step up to the green (read: astro turf) and swing the ball into a projector screen. The interface is basic, but the Golf game drew a large crowd of spectators and a long line of people who wanted to try it out.
At the front of the expo was a NASCAR racing simulator where players would hop into a car to play. Inside the car was a flat screen monitor to see the action and a steering wheel set up to drive. The car would shake and tilt slightly on turns, but it wouldn’t make any jarring mechanisms when you crashed into walls or other cars. Actually you couldn’t “crash” into other cars and at times you could squeeze through narrow spaces between two vehicles. See a video of the NASCAR game below.
