Eyes On Resident Evil 6’s Invisible Snake-like B.O.W. Boss

Capcom gave Siliconera a sneak peek at a new B.O.W. from Chris’ campaign in Resident Evil 6 at the San Diego Comic-Con today.

Set in the middle of the game, Chris and his new partner, Piers, are inside an apartment building in Laixiang. After kicking through a few doors and contextual kills (you can push zombies into elevator shafts), they realize they aren’t alone. Harking back to the original Resident Evil, players catch a glimpse of the monster—a huge snake—as it devours one of Chris’ team.

Chris is notably upset about losing an operative and chases after the snake alone as it slithers away. A frustrated Piers comments on Chris’ reckless behavior and Chris responds saying he doesn’t want to lose any more team members.

The battle with the snake doesn’t start right away. Players have to track down the B.O.W. first, and it can turn invisible. Or rather, it’s more like cloaking, since you can see hints of of the serpent’s silhouette. At one point, Chris and Piers split up and have to regroup to move forward. Eventually, they corner the serpent in a slaughterhouse-like area with pig carcasses dangling around the place. The snake-like B.O.W. slithers onto the ceiling and bullets start flying.

The snake’s body was difficult to see during the fight, but its fangs were visible. Usually you would see the snake’s giant maw lunging towards the player. The snake B.O.W. can wrap around Chris and try to crush him, which prompts a QTE where you need to rotate the analog stick to escape. On top of Piers providing cover fire, a third member of Chris’ unit attacks the B.O.W., too.

Producer Hirabayashi explained to us that the fight continues even if you run into a different room. We’ll have more coverage on Resident Evil 6 including an interview with producers Kobayashi and Hirabayashi on Siliconera soon.
