Almost Human has announced that its dungeon crawling RPG Legend of Grimrock 2 will be available for PC on October 15th and has opened up shop for pre-orders with a 15% discount.
Legend of Grimrock 2 is a party-based first-person action RPG in the style of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. That means movement is grid-based, combat plays out in real-time, and there are puzzles and secrets to find around the environments.
The first game took place in the dank dungeons of Mount Grimrock and had you playing as a group of prisoners. This sequel takes the series into the bright lights of the outside world as you’ll be fighting across the secluded Isle of Nex. It provides a mix of mysterious ancient forests and dangerous poison swamps, and many other locations to travel across.
Almost Human has previously stated that Legend of Grimrock 2 will have more traps, exploration, and puzzles to solve than the first. That’s not to say the combat will be any less frequent or brutal, however. This sequel will also apparently have improved spellcasting and an upgraded combat system.
“Monsters are now smarter and they know how to use their larger numbers to their advantage,” Almost Human co-founder Petri Häkkinen has said. “The repertoire of tricks they know has been expanded greatly. For example, some monsters can call other monsters for help and can use group tactics against you. Of course the behavior of monsters depends on their intelligence so the most stupid and most fierce monsters are still, well, fierce and stupid as they should be.”
The main serving of Legend of Grimrock 2 should take about 20 hours or more to complete according to Almost Human. However, as with the first game, it will also have a Dungeon Editor so you can spend time creating more dungeons for yourself, or downloading those that others have made.
You can pre-order Legend of Grimrock 2 for Windows, Mac, and Linux at the discounted price of $20.39 (down from $23.99) until October 14th on the game’s website. That gets you a DRM-free standalone install of the game and a Steam key. You can also purchase the upcoming sequel with the first game for $25.49 (down from $29.99) as part of the same limited time sale.
