Outside tools help develop the Last Remnant

Square-Enix is known for developing tools for their internally developed games. The “White Engine” is going to be used to make Final Fantasy XIII and the Final Fantasy III DS engine looks like it might be used for a new series of Final Fantasy remakes. The Last Remnant is different, since it is the first game in development that is going to use the Unreal Engine 3. It’s also using SpeedTree RT to develop a large variety of trees. Extra tools should get The Last Remnant to market faster than if Square-Enix had to develop their tools, but more importantly than that if new tools lower the cost of game development maybe Square-Enix will introduce more original IPs like the Last Remnant in the future.
