Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty On Wii U Not Cancelled, But “Challenges” Are Being Faced

Oddworld Inhabitants has released a statement to specify that the Wii U version of Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty, which is the remake of the original 1997 Oddworld game, is not cancelled but that it is having problems with it.

This came after Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning spoke on the Fragments of Silicon podcast discussing the issues the team was having with bringing the game to other platforms. The Wii U was picked out as a particularly troublesome platform.

“We’re having challenges with not having a hard disk, but we’re trying to overcome those challenges. We have a significant amount of money and time invested in trying to resolve that issue, but if I guaranteed it, I might be silly,” Lanning said.

“If you’re going to make a Wii U game, it better run on the 8GB unit. Otherwise, it’s not really a Wii U game,” he added.

Word spread of what Lanning had said, which led to the Oddworld Inhabitants Twitter account releasing two statements on the matter. The first tweet said: “New ‘n’ Tasty is not cancelled on Wii U. We are currently having challenges with the platform that we are striving to overcome.”

The second tweet went on to say: “Regarding Wii U, while supporting the 8GB model is a consideration, it is neither a dealbreaker nor the only challenge.”

The problem with the 8GB model for the Wii U is its limited space. This isn’t usually an issue if there’s a retail copy of a game available with a disc, but New ‘N’ Tasty is a download-only title, so presumably Oddworld Inhabitants wants to make sure New ‘N’ Tasty is available to every potential customer, providing they have the hard disk space.

Oddworld New ‘N’ Tasty was released on PlayStation 4 back in July of this year. It’s supposed to also come to PC, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita at some point.
