Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Trades Shmup Simplicity For 3D Chaos

Recommended Videos

Geometry Wars became the best-selling Xbox Live Arcade game because it took the simplicity of retro shooters and gave it a modernization. The latest, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, trades that simplicity for a new dimension.

Yep, this third game in the series is in 3D. Rather than spending minutes or hours chipping away at endless spawning shapes with your bullets, now there are levels, bosses, and different faces of cubes and spherical arenas to keep track of.

While Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions has a clean art style it is far from the comfortable retro evolution that the original Project Gotham Racing 2 mini-game was.

It has 50 single player levels, 10 battle modes, four different companion drones, co-operative and competitive online modes, and leaderboards tied to your friends list and the online community.

What it trades for that simplicity is a lot for you to do. Plus, it’s much harder to keep track of multiple angles of a 3D shape and space than it is a 2D battlefield.

If you enjoyed Geometry Wars but want something more chaotic then Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions might be worth a shot. It’s available for $14.99 on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
