Battle Through A War-Torn America In NES-Style Game Steel Assault

Recommended Videos

Steel Assault is a 2D side-scrolling action game with an 8-bit NES style currently heading to PC. (Note: The video above is very out-dated as it uses old sprites.)

It’s set in the US in 2040 after a fascist revolt has thrown it into chaos while a ruthless tyrant called Magnus Pierce has a vision of restoring America to its former majesty through war. I don’t think that’s going to go well, somehow.

You play as a resistance soldier with a robotic suit who is dropped into the enemy-occupied Washington D.C. Apparently, the game’s focus is on close combat but there are other weapons that can be picked up that offer ranged attacks.

The idea behind Steel Assault is to provide an explosive, tight, and challenging game experience that could be completed in 25-30 minutes in one playthrough without dying even once.

However, not many will reach that level of mastery, and getting to it will require hours and hours of replays. It’s an effort to recreate an arcade experience, in other words.

You can follow Steel Assault’s development on its website where you’ll also find gifs and more screenshots that haven’t been blown up to ugly proportions.
