Katamari Damacy Creator’s New PS4 Game Wattam Is About Making Connections

Recommended Videos

With Katamari Damacy, Noby Noby Boy, and Tenya Wanya Teens, Keita Takahashi has established himself as a designer with a passion for playful, cute, and strange gaming experiences.

His latest, Wattam, will no doubt fall neatly into his idiosyncratic catalog of games. It was revealed during the PlayStation Experience on December 6th with the short comedic trailer you can watch above.

What you’ll see in the trailer is the cube-shaped mayor of Wattam trying on a number of identical bowler hats before he walks out the front door. Unfortunately, the mayor seems to have not noticed what he has lying on top of his head underneath his hat…

Not much is known about Wattam yet as its whimsical world and its characters will be revealed throughout 2014. What we do know is that the idea behind the game came to Takahashi while playing with his two-year-old son. He wondered what it would be like if all the toys were alive and connected with each other.

The title “Wattam” is a portmanteau of the Tamil and Japanese words for “making a circle” or “making a loop,” which fits the game as it’s apparently all about making connections between different types of things. Look out for more information on Wattam in the near future.
