Garbage Day Is The More Violent Videogame Version Of Groundhog Day

Recommended Videos

The creators of Garbage Day wear their inspiration on their sleeve. It’s a game in which you relive the same day over and over and try to work out how to get out of the time loop. Yep, it’s just like the film Groundhog Day, except without Bill Murray and with a lot more low-poly violence.

It all takes place in a suburban town where an accident in the nearby nuclear power plant has, somehow, trapped you in this single day, reliving it for eternity. How you might get out of it is completely unknown, and as this virtual world is an available to you as a sandbox, you have all the room you could want to experiment.

You can go to work, interact with computers running Windows ‘98, watch VHS tapes, go for a shower, and eat cereal. It’s also possible to find guns and swords with which to cause absolute chaos around town, murdering innocent people.

No matter what happens, by the end of the day you’ll go to sleep and wake up at the beginning of the same day – the same happens if you die. However, what has changed is you. Everything you’ve done previously will be remembered by your character, and this will affect dialogue choices. And that’s where some changes, and perhaps progression, can be made.

Currently, Garbage Day is still deep in development but it is up on Steam Greenlight, at least.
