Studio That Is “Tired Of Seeing Action Games Marketed As Survival Horror” Launches Uncanny Valley

Indie studio Cowardly Creations writes that it is “tired of seeing action games marketed as survival horror,” and that’s why its team “decided to make [their] own true to the genre game.”

That game is called Uncanny Valley and it is now available to purchase on Steam for Windows at $9.99. It has you playing as a security guard called Tom who works the night shift at a remote facility.

Core to the horror experience that Uncanny Valley has to offer is its “consequence system.” Quite simply, if you screw up in the game and encounter injury then this will affect you for the rest of the game. “For example – you fail at avoiding your attackers, meaning your character will move slower throughout the game, making it harder to escape future pursuers,” writes Cowardly Creations. ”The player then needs to be careful and more clever, which adds more tension to the game.”

This system is in place to hopefully avoid the more frustrating side of playing games – dying over and over. This, theorizes Cowardly Creations, removes all the tension in a survival horror game, so the studio has tried to ensure that you keep going with your condition deteriorating if you screw up.
