Jotun’s Hand-Drawn World Of Norse Mythology Looks Monstrously Beautiful

A new trailer for upcoming action-exploration game Jotun has been released in celebration of its alpha being distributed to the game’s Kickstarter backers. It lets you hear the voice actress for main character Thora for the first time.

The trailer also gives us the first look at the huge and frosty world that the game takes place in. Previously, we had only seen a battle with a frost giant. Now we can get a shot that overlooks the entire world from up high on a cliff, showing off its labyrinth of glacial arenas and frozen wastelands. There are also shots that show off a massive placid lake, punctured by monoliths, and possibly frozen over; Thora hiding behind rocks from the chilly winds; a scene that could possibly show off Thora reaching Yggdrasil, which is also known as the Tree of Life in Norse mythology.

There also seems to another boss shown in this video as Jörmungandr a large eel-like creature known as the World Serpent, breaks through the surface of a frozen lake, coiling into a menacing pose as Thora runs past. Another scene sees Thora channelling an arcane power that she gains from a statue of Thor that turns her axe into a large hammer that glows with a gold lattice – presumably for a more powerful attack.

Thunder Lotus also released new screenshots from Jotun, some of which you can see below. Oh, and if you need a reminder, as developer Thunder Lotus Games tells it, Jotun has “you play Thora, a Norse warrior who has died an inglorious death and must prove herself to the Gods to enter Valhalla.” You can find out more about it on its website.
