Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Be More Realistic, But Won’t Have New Characters

Final Fantasy VII remake director Tetsuya Nomura recently spoke about why Square Enix decided to finally do the remake for PlayStation 4, and in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, he shared a little more on what we can expect from the upcoming title. [Thanks, Hachima.]

When asked about the footage shown in the Final Fantasy VII remake teaser trailer, Nomura says that it’s actually part of a footage that is seen in the game. The quality will increase over time.

“The first platform you’ll get to play it on will be PlayStation 4, without question,” says Nomura when asked about which other platform we’ll see the game on. “We haven’t thought about the other [platforms] so it’s still unknown. Our company will continue releasing more PlayStation 4 titles, so we’d like to expand on the hardware, and get the industry excited.”

Next, Famitsu asks whether it the Final Fantasy VII remake will mainly be an HD remake.

Final Fantasy VII is special, and simply making the graphics better-looking won’t ‘surpass’ the [original] game,” responds Nomura.

“There won’t be any new characters. As far as visual taste goes, it’s going to match the visuals we’ve seen this time, and be more on the realistic side,” says Nomura when asked about any scenario changes or new characters.

Finally, Famitsu asks more about the game system.

“While I can’t say much about the details, it will be changed to a system that has a sense of reality,” answers Nomura.

The Final Fantasy VII remake is in development for PlayStation 4.
