Arc System Works Want To Make A New Fighter, Following Guilty Gear And BlazBlue

Arc System Works’ two major fighter series are soon getting their next installments with Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator and BlazBlue Central Fiction, but the company’s president said in this week’s Famitsu magazine that they’re looking to add a brand new fighter to the mix as well. [Thanks, Hachima]

In the interview, Famitsu asks if Arc System Works intend on increasing the number of games they’ll be selling via retail.

“I don’t know if some of these retail games will end up being sold digitally instead, but we’d like to at least work on increasing the number of console titles that can be sold at full price,” says Arc System Works president Minoru Kidooka.

Now that Arc System Works have acquired the rights to Technos Japan’s licenses, Famitsu asks what’s next as far as those are concerned.

“Firstly, we’d like to develop 3DS titles like we’ve been doing up until now,” responds Kidooka. “Personally, I’d like to see titles such as Kunio-kun and Double Dragon be revived as arcade games again.

Kidooka continues,“This is something we’re aiming for the next fiscal year, but I’d like to get the fighting part of Downtown Hot-Blooded March: Let’s Go to the Great Sports Meet and make it into a game, and turn it into something that can be played competitively with four players at the arcades.”

Next, Famitsu asks if they have plans to make any new fighting games.

“We’ve been throwing some ideas around, but nothing is concrete for the moment,” responds Kidooka.

“We need to establish a new fighting game that follows Guilty Gear and BlazBlue,” says Kidooka when asked about what else is next. “And smartphone games as well. This doesn’t mean that we’re going to become a company that focuses on smartphone games, but I’d like to find a way for it that can successfully be accepted by both the players and the staff.”
